Thanks for visiting!
If you’re reading this, you might have already seen my resume, formatted the way they taught us in undergraduate business school. Boring!
While that gives you the “who, what, when, where,” let this expand to include “why” I might be a great fit for your company.
You’re looking for someone with plenty of sales experience. While I have 3.5 years in sales, I have over 6 years of constant customer-facing experience. Here’s why that’s equivalent, or even better:
For 2.5 years, I was in software implementation at a company called Allegro. Benefits:
Presented software solutions to customers on a weekly basis
Saw firsthand results from excellent sales handoffs and one poor sales handoff, and how the sales rep can impact the customer experience
Left that role with a deep understanding of what needs to take place in order to ensure success after an enterprise deal is closed
For 5 months in 2017, I tried to start a company and failed. Benefits:
Learned I didn’t understand a thing about sales
Realized that having a customer interested in the value you can provide is one of the coolest feelings ever
Decided I really wanted to go into B2B sales
For 3.5 years, I’ve been in a sales role at GHX, selling a data analytics product. Benefits:
Learned sales was a great fit — once I understood it !
Learned that selling to data-driven people (like me) is incredibly fun
Experience selling to a wide variety of customers: healthcare suppliers, hospitals, consulting firms, private equity groups, and hedge funds
Deep and consistent exposure to product, marketing, and customer success teams, and occasional contribution to their strategies
All of this leads me to today, where I’m looking for my next career step. There are a few items I’m prioritizing in this search, and the opportunities I’ve applied to will match at least the first two:
Selling a flagship product for the company - not just one product of dozens
A company with “rocketship” growth potential
A team of high achievers that enjoy collaborating
Nice to have: potential to move into a sales manager role within a few years
